If the player loses the minigame, they will lose the used cauldrons and the province will stay under Roman control. If the player wins the minigame, the province will become theirs. The more troops the player sends to such a province, the easier it will be to win. The game does not inform the player in advance which provinces have minigames: if the player sends troops to a minigame province, the minigame will start shortly. Minigame provinces and the minigames themselves are not randomized. The Roman troops are controlled similarly by Caesar and will usually attack the player's territory after they finish their turn.Ĭertain Roman provinces require the player to win minigames. The player needs to add cauldrons of magic potion to Gaulish provinces to raise the amount of troops there, send their troops to Roman provinces to free them or weaken the Roman troops, and move troops between provinces to where it's more needed. At the start of the game all provinces except the Gaulish village are occupied by Romans. There are 9 differing levels such as a Roman camp, Gallo-Roman village, the Alps and even a Pirate's Ship to add variety.For the most part the game takes place on an interactive map of Gaul. You only choose how many men you wish to send to war, and watch as the battle is fought. In some usually smaller territories, there are no mini-games or action sequences, only combat between your troops and the opposing forces. If you make it through the level alive, you gain control of the land and its resources.
These include 'Throw the Roman' and 'Bowling for Romans', while the side-scrolling action sequences have you collecting coins and other items. When you attack a neighbouring land, you'll either: play a side-scrolling action sequence, your men will go into war with that land's forces, or you'll play one of four mini-games. After gathering your army, you must capture lands adjacent to yours. You play as Asterix, Obelix and the rest of the Celtic Gaul army as they war with the Romans, led by Caesar, who have seized all but one territory from the Gaul Empire.
